Perhaps my memory is fuzzy, or perhaps the vénue changed recently, but I may have given the wrong location for Saturday night’s 8 p.m. concert for the Brown University Jazz Band.

It will be at the Grant Recital Hall, which is near the Orwig Music Building on Hope and Young Orchard Streets, but further in from the sidewalk in both directions.

This is the final show of the semester for the full ensemble, some of whose members will graduate on the day before Memorial Day and thus not return next year.

This might prove a pleasant relaxation for those who worked in Earth Day clean-ups on Saturday morning and mid-day.

¶ However, there will be two other Brown jazz concerts two Tuesdays from now, on May 9th.

• The Jazz Combos concert (for smaller ensembles, from trios to septets) will also be at 8 p.m. in Grant Recital Hall.

(Unfortunately, this will be right after our Wayland Square neighborhood meeting at Red Stripe restaurant, 465 Angell St.; perhaps this will be an incentive for promptness in starting and adjourning.)

• Earlier that same day (Tuesday 9 May), from 4 to 5 p.m., there will be an Applied Music Program Jazz Concert in Fulton Rehearsal Hall, which is right next to Grant Recital Hall, but closer to both Hope Street and Benevolent Street.

I don't know if this is individual soloists or an ensemble, but the AMP is I think directed to students looking to make a professional career in music.

(Both the classical and the jazz programs at Brown, including the majority of students in Music classes, have an astonishing number of highly-accomplished performers who are working very hard in completely different fields, from public-health medicine to nuclear engineering.)

Have a good weekend,

Dave
