[Summit] Replacement window recs (alison shonkwiler)

Alison -- Let me add my vote to Joanna's! I had Heritage strip and fix and reinstall all my old windows. It's a bit cheaper than new windows and will last for decades (unlike new windows that are only set for ~20 years.) Plus they are phenomenally more attractive and the heat difference is close to nonexistent. Lastly, better resale value.

Combined with a good storm window, a historic wood window will achieve energy efficiency roughly the same as a replacement window, and will last longer. Restoring a window will also keep it out of the landfill, and original windows add a lot to the architectural character of a house. This article includes some good info on the topic: https://savingplaces.org/stories/preservation-tips-tools-retrofitting-historic-windows#.WMMNeNIrKpp (I work in historic preservation, so I'm a fan of old wood windows.)

I have the Summit list of handypeople and contractors from a couple years ago, but there isn't a specific category for window restoration/replacement on it. Thanks in advance.?
