 Note that Fox Point’s board meeting scheduled for this Monday 8 July has been cancelled. (Nor is the West Broadway Neighborhood Association meeting in July or August.)
The Jewelry District Association is meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday (details below), while the Downtown Neighborhood Association is meeting at 6:30 the same evening (Tues 9 July) in the Pavilion at Grace Church, 300 Westminster Street above Mathewson (enter from the back entrance facing Snow Street).
I have no meeting information about the Wayland Square Neighborhood Association.

Path Paved for Fane. After fighting the 500-foot Hope Point tower for over a year, residents and a coalition of advocacy groups (including FPNA) were dismayed to see the General Assembly pass a $10B budget last week that not only stripped the City of its control over developments on State-owned land, but handed the New York developer Jason Fane $25m in tax credits. Spencer Proposal Rejected. As many Fox Point neighbors know, last year FPNA convened residents and stakeholders to review three development plans proposed for the so-called "sunflower" parcels on 195 land (located between South Main and South Water streets, just north of Wickenden). Neighbors overwhelmingly supported a mixed-use proposal by Spencer Providence LLC. After a long and unexplained silence, the 195 Commission unilaterally rejected the proposal last week. Tax Hike is Dead, Budget Battle Ends. Over two weeks ago, East Siders strongly opposed a major alteration to our homeowner taxation that was proposed at the 11th hour by City Councilman John Igliozzi. Thanks in part to their steadfast objections, that proposal has been set aside (at least for this year) as the budget process nears completion. School Meetings Continue as Alarm Spreads. A recent study of Providence Public Schools revealed dire circumstances with regard to academic learning, teacher morale, parent satisfaction, leadership capacity, and overall safety and condition of school buildings. While public meetings have been underway since the end of June to review the report and hear pubic feedback, a few opportunities remain through July 13. See the schedule, here. Gano Detours to Begin July 8. A portion of India Street will be closed starting this coming Monday, July 8, for approximately 4 weeks, in order to rebuild the intersection at Gano and India streets. See the suggested detour, here.
City Invites Residents to July 4 Celebration Tonight. The City's annual July 4 celebration will take place at 7pm tonight in India Point Park. Learn more here. Considering where to sit for the fireworks? The Providence Daily Dose recommends Linear Park, here.

Cape Verdean Flag Raising to Take Place Tomorrow. The City of Providence will raise a Cape Verdean flag tomorrow, July 5, at 5:30pm in a family-friendly celebration of Cape Verdean Independence Day. Learn more here.   |

|  Directions to FPNA Monthly MeetingsFPNA monthly meetings take place on the second Monday of each month in the Art Room/Community Room of the Vartan Gregorian School (in cases of Monday holidays, we meet the following day). Look for a short driveway at the eastern-most side of the building near the intersection of Governor and Wickenden Streets. The entrance to the Art Room is located about 50 feet down that driveway on the right-hand side.    |
