|  The Friends of Rochambeau Pandemic Times 

 What's New?
Beside  providing drive up and drop off service for books, The Rochambeau Branch and most other branches of PCL have re-opened in  a limited way. 
Check the PCL website for current hours of operation and activities happeninig virtually.     http://www.provcomlib.org.

Unfortunately, Book Sale and Media sale operations have come to a screeching halt and will not resume until the Library is able to function under normal conditions.  We seriously regret that the Book Sale Team is unable to accept donations of books or other media at this time. Our storage areas are over full.  Let us look forward to a new year when this state of affairs has changed for the better.

---We're Keeping You Safe At the Avon Cinema--- 

Following the CDC and state and local guidelines, we have instituted new procedures to keep everyone safe. 

Many seats and rows have been closed to ensure proper spacing between guests. Seats that are available are easily identified with white tape at the top of the seat back. No one will be directly in front of or in back of another person. Two people arriving together may sit together. If someone comes alone, they may not sit next to another person who came alone. 

Guests buying tickets will notice tape on the floor at 6 foot intervals leading up to the box office. There are decals on the lobby floor at 6 foot intervals that lead up to the concession stand and the auditorium. 

If you are paying with a credit card, our terminal is now accessible to you. Our cashier will prompt you when to inset or remove your card. You may also tear your receipt directly from the credit card machine. You may also pay with cash. 

At the end of each show, we clean and sanitize the theatre (including seats, armrests, counters, bathrooms, door handles, hand rails, etc.) before admitting people in for the next show. 

Face masks are worn at all times except while you are sitting in the auditorium. Remember to wear your face mask to exit after the show.

Dear Neighbors,

September is officially upon us and with it comes a new school year. Over the last few days, RISD has officially welcomed approximately 1,800 students to its Providence campus for the fall semester.

And while this is a season that typically brings with it a renewed sense of optimism and potential, there is no denying this year feels a bit different. Entwined with the excitement of having access to new knowledge and engagement, there is also some nervousness and anxiety among students, faculty, staff and you – our community of neighbors.

I again want to reassure you that RISD remains committed to protecting the health and safety of both those on and around our campus, while at the same time providing a sense of normalcy for students. The institution has spent months planning and implementing protocols to reduce the risk of spread of COVID-19, and create a “new normal” as safely as possible. All decision-making has been—and will continue to be—guided by three primary goals: community health and safety, academic integrity, and financial viability. Additionally, all planning has embedded diversity, equity and inclusion at the core of the policies, plans, and communications.

We continue to evaluate how the institution can acknowledge and address the effects of the myriad impacts of COVID-19 on different communities. I encourage you to visit the covid.risd.edu website for additional details, updates, and key contacts related to the reopening of campus.

I welcome the opportunity to share these important updates with more neighbors and friends. Health Protocols 

All RISD community members – students, faculty or staff – living or working on campus during the fall will be tested as the semester begins. All costs for baseline arrival testing are covered by RISD. 

RISD will continue to conduct regular surveillance testing throughout the semester. Surveillance testing focuses on scheduled random sampling of asymptomatic community members and involves a self-administered test that is directly observed by a trained observer. Read more

Campus Opening 

Students
As students arrive on campus, they are required to quarantine for a 14-day period. During this time, RISD staff members are working hard to provide them with an extensive array of online academic and co-curricular programming to keep them engaged. RISD Dining is delivering meals to students, as well as offering limited pickup/takeout only to support students’ ability to quarantine.  Following the quarantine, no guests or visitors will be allowed into residence halls.

Undergraduate and graduate students who live off campus are being directed to follow state health guidelines for residents. These students will have the opportunity to purchase a meal plan, however they will be prohibited from visiting on-campus residences.  They will also be included in the testing protocol described above.

RISD community members are empowered to respectfully and professionally remind on-campus visitors of physical distancing and face-covering requirements, and are encouraged to contact Public Safety in the event visitors refuse to comply with RISD policy or the laws of Rhode Island. In addition, institutional leadership has publicly stated they will take swift and decisive action to address, adjudicate, and resolve noncompliant behaviors including off-campus parties that violate gathering restrictions. Staff 
Many of RISD’s faculty and staff will continue remote work arrangements through the fall semester. However, all have been required to complete a virtual public health training. The training is part of an ongoing effort to provide employees with up-to-date and reliable information with an emphasis on campus community health. Read more

Public Spaces 
Finally, while one of the most wonderful characteristics of RISD is its connection to the neighborhood, we are making an effort to limit public interaction with our campus buildings until further notice. This means only students, faculty, staff, and persons with official college business will be permitted to enter our campus spaces including the RISD Museum, the Fleet Library, the Edna Lawrence Nature Lab, as well as all academic buildings. These measures are meant to protect the health of both our academic community and the city at large.

RISD Continuing Education to Offer Online and Hybrid Courses 

Registration is now open (and filling up fast) for fall Continuing Education courses. More than 110 courses will be offered for adults and teens beginning September 19. Most courses will be taught asynchronously through RISD CE’s online course management system, giving attendees a flexible learning experience that they can access anytime, from anywhere.

RISC CE will also offer some in-person classes this fall in conjunction with the Westerly Education Center. Eleven hybrid courses (in-person/online) and 10 in-person courses will be offered at the Westerly location, adhering to the most recent guidelines from both the RI Department of Health and the CDC.
