[Summit] Meetings Monday & Weds on Gano St. on-ramp + RIDOT work on Henderson Bridge, I-95 N, 6/10 Connector & Prov./Cranston bridges

Dear David, 
I’m writing to let you know that two projects relating to Ward 1 will be reviewed at the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission meeting on Wednesday, April 21, at 4:45 pm: the RIDOT plan to relocate the Gano Street on-ramp to I-195, and planned improvements on Broadway, Greene Street, and Fountain Street.

Pursuant to Executive Order 2016-1, the BPAC is required to review all significant street, sidewalk, or trail repair or construction projects at two points during their development: once during the project’s initial scoping phase and a second time during the preliminary design phase.
 All applicable projects that involve the Department of Public Works or the Department of Planning and Development in the decision-making process, including projects brought forth by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation or any other third party that require the approval or input of either the Department of Public Works or the Department of Planning and Development, shall go through review by the Commission.
Before the BPAC meeting, we would like your feedback and have invited the city of Providence's Principal Planner Alex Ellis and Martina Haggerty, Associate Director of Special Projects to provide the community with a briefing on these plans at a special Ward 1 community meeting. This is a critical meeting as the proposed RIDOT plan to relocate the Gano Street on-ramp will have important implications on the community for years to come.  |

| This multi-bridge project addresses four bridges on the Cranston/Providence line. It will replace the bridges carrying I-95 over Elmwood Avenue and Wellington Avenue and rehabilitate the ramp bridges that carry traffic from I-95 North to Route 10 North (Huntington North) and Route 10 South to I-95 North (Huntington South). Next week, motorists can expect daytime alternating lane closures in both directions of I-95 for concrete chipping at the Huntington North and South bridges. |

| Broad Street Regeneration, Pawtucket/Central Falls/Cumberland |

| After a winter shutdown period, this project has resumed. Next week, weekday traffic signal work and center island curbing installations continue at the intersection of Broad Street, Exchange Street and Goff Avenue in Pawtucket. We are also planning to continue curbing and sidewalk installations along Broad Street in Central Falls. Driveway/walkway and street parking restrictions are possible.  |

| Henderson Bridge, East Providence/Providence |

| We need to fully close Waterfront Drive Sunday-Tuesday nights and intermittently close Massasoit Avenue Wednesday and Thursday nights for steel girder demolition. Follow signed detours. Weekday operations next week include continued demolition of the existing westbound bridge concrete deck, excavation prior to demolition for the existing ramp from Massasoit Avenue to the Henderson Expressway westbound, and prep work for the last temporary traffic signal on North Brow Street in East Providence.  |

| I-95 North Viaduct, Providence |

| On Friday and Saturday nights, April 23 and 24, we’re scheduled to install new lane shifts on I-95 South at the Providence Viaduct. Once in place, traffic will shift to the right under the Route 146 overpass and the Smith Street Bridge. 
Next week, Providence Place East will be closed Wednesday and Thursday nights for bridge demolition, and daytime bridge abutment repairs will continue Thursday and Friday at the Charles Street and Ashburton Street bridges. Get the latest lane closure information here. |

| Next week, overnight right lane closures are planned along I-95 so we can continue to pave the widened acceleration lanes from Route 138 to I-95. Weekdays within the existing traffic patterns on both I-95 and Route 138, we plan to install formwork and rebar, drainage, highway lighting, granite curbing and landscaping at the bridge.  |

| A weekday left lane closure is planned in both directions of Route 116 under the Route 146 southbound bridge as we continue to construct the center pier cap (upper portion of the pier supported by the pier columns) on Route 116. |

| Foundation work is continuing at the Providence and Boston-bound passenger platforms through April and May, respectively. | A weekday right lane closure is planned for work at the Pontiac Bridge and drainage improvements along Route 5 South, from Knight Street to Shalom Drive. The ongoing traffic pattern remains along Route 5. |

| Weekday work scheduled for next week includes striping for the Route 6 East ramp to Route 10 North, widening of the Route 10 South shoulder adjacent to the Route 10 North to Route 6 West flyover bridge for gas main relocation, storm drain installation in the Route 10 median, and continued construction for the new Westminster Street, Harris Avenue and Tobey Street bridges.  |
