We would like to share with you some upcoming announcements and things to be on the lookout for here in Providence. As always, please let me know if there is anything that I can do for you or any additional information that you may need!

Deadline: April 23: The Dexter Donation Application

The Dexter Donation Commission is now accepting applications from non-profits who serve Providence residents “to ameliorate the condition of the poor, and to contribute to their comfort andrelief.” Please visit this link for more information.

Join City of Providence’s COVID-19 Notification List

For updates regarding the City’s vaccination efforts, all residents are encouraged to join the Providence Vaccine Notification List in English or Spanish, visit the VaccinatePVD website or contact the Mayor’s Center for City Services at City Hall by dialing 3-1-1 or by downloading the PVD311 mobile application now available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

FEMA COVID-19 Funeral Assistance

Under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, FEMA will provide financial assistance for COVID-19-related funeral expenses incurred after January 20, 2020. FEMA began to implement COVID-19 funeral assistance in this week. Please visit their website for more information. 

Vacation Meal Kits Available for Free to Providence Students During April Break

Providence Public School District, in partnership with Sodexo, will distribute Vacation Meal Kits including seven days’ worth of breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and dinners from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, at its eight Grab and Go Meal sites:

·       Alan Shawn Feinstein Elementary School at 1450 Broad St.

·       DelSesto Middle School at 152 Springfield St.

·       Nathan Bishop Middle School at 101 Sessions St.

·       Nathaniel Greene Middle School at 721 Chalkstone Ave.

·       Gilbert Stuart Middle School at 188 Princeton Ave.

·       Esek Hopkins Middle School at 480 Charles St.

·       Roger Williams Middle School at 278 Thurbers Ave.

·       Providence Career and Technical Academy/PCTA at 41 Fricker St.

Any child 18 and under is eligible to receive a meal kit, which includes make-your-own pizzas, tortillas, chicken, fresh fruits, vegetables, cheese, milk, juice, snacks, and breakfast fixings. Families of Providence Public School students may show proof of their students’ ID numbers in order to pick up food without their children being present.

Mayor Elorza Announces Safe Reopening of Providence Recreation Centers, Return of Youth SummerEmployment Opportunities

Last week Mayor Jorge O. Elorza joined Councilwoman Katherine Kerwin (Ward 12), Recreation Director of Support Services Jackie Poulios, Art, Culture + Tourism Cultural Affairs Manager Gina Rodríguez-Drix, local artist Ysanel Torres and community members to announce the reopening of all Providence Recreation Centers beginning Monday, April 12, 2021.

All 11 Providence Recreation Centers will each offer a unique schedule of socially distant enrichment programming free of charge for Providence youth ages 7-15 weekdays beginning Monday, April 12. For updated hours of operations for each Recreation Center as well as the updated safety protocols that will be enforced to protect the health of youth, families, and staff,please visit this link.

The City of Providence will also once again offer youth summer employment opportunities to operate lunch program sites, camps, and water parks across the City, subject to change due to COVID-19. Applications can be submitted through the Providence youth summer jobs portal pvdsummerjobs.com. Youth must be at least 14 years of age as of June 15, 2021, to apply.

City of Providence Launches Online Overnight Parking Permit

This week Mayor Elorza joined Councilman David Salvatore (ward 14) to launch an online overnight parking permit as a result of continued efforts to modernize and simplify city services.

Applicants can visithttps://www.providenceri.gov/public-works/forms/ and selectOvernight Parking Application which will lead them to the online system offering various options for permits and licenses. A user account will be required to complete an online permit that can be paid with credit card or electronic check. As part of the system, Viewpoint offers all application options to choose from once an applicant is logged on. Viewpoint is embedded across City departments, often eliminating the need for applicants to submit duplicate information that is repeated across multiple departments. 

Mayor Elorza Announces Completion of Operations Review and Analysis of the Providence Public Safety Department

This week Mayor Jorge O. Elorza joined Councilman Pedro Espinal (Ward 10), Commissioner of Public Safety, Steven Paré, Deputy Director of PFM’s Center for Justice and Safety Finance, Seth Williams, Senior Advisor for PFM’s Center for Justice & Safety Finance, Ronal Serpas, artist facilitators Shey Rivera and Vatic Kuumba, and community members to announce the completion of an independentoperations review and analysis of the Providence Public Safety Department by the PFM Center for Justice and Safety Finance. 

Thereport provides a series of data-driven policy and operational choices to transition Providence to a prevention-first model of public safety and create a healthier, safer, and more just community. The report will be used to inform the dialogue between the City and the community and identify opportunities to create capacity for prevention-first services and investments in sectors like housing, infrastructure, education, health care, workforce training, behavioral health, and social services, among others to enhance outcomes as part of the City’s commitment to improving social justice and equity.

Mayor Elorza Announces Expanded Resources for Outdoor Activation

Last spring, Mayor Elorza spearheaded an effort to provide relief to Providence’s hard-hit hospitality industry. From offering free 2-hr parking in business corridors to waiving city fees associated with special events, it is estimated that Providence businesses throughout the city received over $370,000 in financial support to support outdoor activation during the pandemic. Additionally, the City offered enhanced outdoor programming and virtual opportunities to encourage visitors to patronize neighborhood restaurants and retail establishments. To further accelerate economic growth, the City will offer new resources in 2021 to maximize the City’s outdoor spaces for dining, retail, special events, and recreational activities.

Effective as ofApril 9, 2021, through December 31, 2021, resources to support this effort includes:

   - Waiving fees associated with special event permitting, including but not limited to application fees, street closures, police and fire details, and vending fees;   
   - Creating and training a Special Events Team to assist event producers to implement COVID guidelines during events permitted by the City;
   - Offering up to two hours of free parking in designated commercial districts throughout Providence;
   - Launching a webinar series to help businesses navigate the special event, outdoor dining, and expansion of premise applications. More details, including the date of the first virtual gathering will be announced soon atwww.thinkpvd.com.

Applications foroutdoor dining accommodations, special event and use permits, and expansion of premise permits are now open. To stay up to date on City event guidelines and resources, business owners and special event planners are encouraged to visitthinkpvd.com.

Parking permit fees remain unchanged requiring $100 annually for a Providence registered vehicle, $200 annually for an out of city registered vehicle and $25 for a guess pass, valid for five times per month for one year. Applying for an overnight parking permit via mail or in person will remain an option for applicants.
