Hi Neighbors,

You probably received a letter from the Providence Tax Assessor's office
last month regarding recertifying your homestead exemption. This is
important because it reduces your homeowner's property tax by 40% if you
live in your home.

Like me, many people I've spoken to glanced at the letter and then put it
aside for later or just filed it away, not realizing that this needed to be
addressed ASAP. The original due date was January 15, 2021, but it has now
been extended to February 12, 2021. They have also upgraded and simplified
the online recertification portal. You need to have an electronic file
(such as via a photo taken by your phone) of your drivers license and
possibly also your car registration, if you have one.

The website is at: https://e.providenceri.gov/homestead-recertification/

It says:
"In order to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the tax assessor’s
records, we are requiring all property owners who claim the homestead
exemption recertify their homestead. The recertification deadline has been
extended to February 12, 2021."

The submission acknowledgement may come to your Spam folder in your email,
as may the recertification approval, so it is prudent to check this folder
regularly.

Good luck!
