| To our wonderful volunteers, donors, and community:
The pandemic has affected us all in 2020 and into 2021, but some populations were hit harder than others: most notably, our unhoused neighbors and those who were already struggling with housing and financial insecurity even before the pandemic.
The decision to cancel the Buy Nothing Day Coat Exchange was not an easy one, but we felt it was the safest option for all involved. Given the ever-evolving status of COVID-19 in Rhode Island, we will not be holding an exchange this January. We do plan on having an event the day after Thanksgiving this year, so please save the 2021 date!
Despite the 2020 coat exchange being canceled, we still wanted to do something for Rhode Islanders in need this year, so from now until March 15, we are running a SOCK DRIVE. One of the most sought-after items for our community is thick, warm socks. We request that - if you can - please collect BRAND NEW and UNOPENED socks for adults and children and either send them directly to us to distribute to local shelters/areas in need or start a collection in your own neighborhood. We will happily take donations as we have for the coat drive and handle the logistics from there. If you’d like to set up a donation box in your place of business/residence, please let us know and we will list you on our website!
We recognize that things are tough this year for everyone, so please just do what you can and remember: spread the warmth!
