[Summit] Electricity - Another Issue

Have folks noticed? that we are paying for
those "Free" energy audits
that the power companies offer "to be helpful"?
To the tune of $100 plus dollars a year?
This has been bothering me for a while
(probably me, more than others, because
I had multiple problems with the "Energy Efficiency" team
that my landlord let into our apartment on Hope Street
- we were NOT impressed)
but whoever they are, we were never asked,
to my knowledge, about paying for those programs.
Yet I see on my electric AND gas bills, we are
charged monthly for "Energy Efficiency Programs"
I added it up & we paid, per year via our service bills
. . . . . electric gas
2020 $124 -
2021 . 104 . 53
2022 . 117 . 74
for these programs
basically like paying for a 13th month's bill every year,
AND that doesn't include the $10 annual fee on EACH service "LIHEAP"
to help poor people pay their bills.
I don't mind that so much, it's less and a good cause.
But we are asked about neither
and our income level is not taken into consideration.
I want to "opt out"
Is there a way to do that?
And are these programs ever AUDITED?
Does the power company get to have any money not used?
We are trying to save enough money to keep paying these outrageous bills
& eat breakfast when we are 80.
Do NOT appreciate extra charges.
