Jim Kelley followed up with the police regarding this incident. Here is his
report.
Thursday night/ Friday morning December 28/29 between 11:00 PM and 7:00
AM, tires were slashed on 34 cars in Providence district 8-3 throughout but
limited to the area west of Hope and north of Rochambeau to the Pawtucket
line. An additional 25 cars were affected over the line into Pawtucket and
included cars parked on the street and in driveways. Providence and
Pawtucket police detectives are working together.
Providence BCI (Bureau of Criminal Investigation?) dusted the Providence
cars with no results. During the night there were no reports of suspicious
activity; however, the next morning one lady told Providence detectives she
thought she saw some kids and heard a hissing sound at 1:30 AM but didn't
call. The Lt. urges people to call 272-1111 for any suspicious activity so
a car can be sent to look around. As of now, the Police need additional
information. If anyone knows anything about this incident, they are asked
to call 243-6980.
Separately, the Lt. reports that there have been numerous car break-ins in
the Marriot and Miriam parking lots since the first of the year. People are
still leaving iPods, etc. in plain view. A particular "hot" item is the
mobile GPS device.
