[Summit] Summit Digest, Vol 74, Issue 10

Hi Everyone,

I know we are WAY past snow season, thankfully, but I'd like to get this
to the proper owner.

This past winter, I thought my father-in-law bought us a large snow tube
for sledding. However, it turned out he had not bought it and we think
it just blew into our driveway on one of those really windy days. We
just never had a chance to address it before.

If you lost one and can describe it, I'd love to get it back to you.

Please let me know.

Thanks,
Sherry on Greaton Dr.

NOTE:? My organization has this year replaced our popular
Less Toxic Landscaping Resource Directory with a new
Grounds & Gardens Guide.? More compact, it emphasizes
info on the Whys and Whats of going organic, along with
some great resources to help you with the Hows.

Good not just for you and your family, but for passing on
to neighbors who make be contaminating the area with
toxic pesticide spraying.? Includes some humor to ease
the seriousness of the toxics info.

Copies of the Grounds & Gardens Guide may be picked up
at Rochambeau Library, across from the circulation desk.
(If they are out, let me know and I'll replenish).

It is also available on our website at:
http://toxicsinfo.org/lesstoxic.htm
(We are also in the process of expanding the gardening
and landscaping info and listings in this section)

Blessings,

Liberty G

Dear Summit Neighbors,

I just want to thank those of you who responded to the request for
volunteers to help out with the SNA newsletter. We received so many
responses! The newsletter is a great way to communicate the good work
the SNA does on behalf of our neighborhood and all the fantastic things
going on in Summit. It means a lot when neighbors are willing to
volunteer - I know we are all very busy! Thank you again to our
newsletter volunteers! We couldn't do it without you!

Best,
Melissa

A strange thing happened last night around 6:30 as I was watering the
grass, trying to get some seed to grow:
I heard something in front of the house next to mine on Lauriston St and
turned to see a bicycle wheel on the edge of their yard. I didn't think
anything of it, and went back to the grass, assuming my neighbor or one
of the other tenants had just quickly placed it there. About 15 minutes
went by and it was still there, so I went to take a closer look. It was
an exceptionally expensive looking racing bike wheel. Again I figured
someone had just put it there, so I cleaned up and went inside. I came
back 20 minutes later and it was still there. Surprised, I texted my
neighbor, and he said he had no idea what I was talking about, it wasn't
his.
The very strange thing is that it wasn't there when I first started
watering the grass or walked my dogs 1/2 hour earlier. It seems very odd
for just a front wheel, and from a very expensive bike ($400 for the
wheel on eBay) to suddenly appear on the edge of the sidewalk. There was
no one else on the street at all at the time.
I eventually took it into our house so that it wouldn't be taken by
someone who didn't own it. I also stopped by Castor's to ask them and
they said they hadn't had anyone looking for a wheel, but that it sure
was a nice wheel and the clerk said he'd be happy to have it, but that
they would put up a lost and found sign for me.
I checked with all of my neighbors and also posted a note on the tree
near where it was found, but thought I'd reach out to the list as well.
My only guess is that it fell off a bike strapped to a car, or perhaps
that it was something more nefarious.
It it's yours, please let me know.
-Jared

My guess is someone was putting a bike on a carrier and took off the
front
wheel and propped it against car; forgot to put it in the car and drove
off.
Probably someone who commutes and was getting some ride time in after
work??
I would think they'd be back asking around!!
