Mike Deforbes, who has launched the Transition Town movement in RI, will be
presenting at Rochambeau Library Monday, Feb. 13, at 7 pm on Peak Oil and
Transition Towns, a global movement begun in England in response to
enviromental and energy concerns.
What is Peak Oil? Monday February 13 7 PM Rochambeau Library
Peak Oil is not synonymous with "running out of oil."
According to the International Energy Agency, conventional global crude oil
production peaked in 2006. The remaining oil is increasingly difficult to
extract, and once oil becomes too expensive to extract and process, it will
no longer be a viable energy source. To replace the physical infrastructure
of our oil-based system with alternative energies in time will not be easy.
Oil is the lifeblood of our economy, our American way of life. Our
industrial food system is dependent on oil. Global human population growth
in the last 150 years may not have been possible without oil.
