Yes I remember now all of this now.. and how grateful those of us working on the fountain revival were to be able to access the SNA structure and ccntacts. And I apologize for forgetting how we managed back then. I think the notion of a subcommittee (permanent or temporary) for this problem seems a positive alternative to a stand-alone structure, certainly at this point..
Per the problem at hand It seems to me from the thread that there are (at least ) 5 intertwined issues that might be sorted out a follows: :
1. why does the fountain (keep) needing expensive repairs?
2. why is it necessary to protect the kids from the fountain and the fountain from the kids?
3. would a new kid-riendly water feature (kfwf) actually function as a means to deter kids from playing in the fountain?
4. If not, what should be done about the fountain?
5. and in any case, would a KFWF be desirable and/or achievable in Lippitt park?
Questions 1 and 2 seem to me answerable by getting informaton from the Park Dept, The other questions seem more fraught and something for thoughtful neighborhood discussionl brainstorming.
Anyway this is my best thoughts in this heat.

However, if a leader wants to come forward and create something focused purely on the park, I think it would make sense for that person/group to do so along with SNA, perhaps as a subcommittee, to make use of the existing organizational infrastructure and relationships we have. Just a thought for consideration. We'd welcome that discussion at a future monthly meeting. Meanwhile, we'll continue to do our best to represent folks' interest to the Parks Department and do good things for Lippitt.
