 [Purely personal opinion, from passing on word over the years about many such “listen to the public” events.]
As usual, this notice (for a listening session of only one hour, coming only five days from today, just after Easter weekend and in the middle of Passover) is wildly inadequate, coming far too late to allow any plans or spreading the word.

I don’t doubt anyone’s sincerity, but this often seems to happen when agencies have to meet some federal, statutory or contractual requirement about which they’re not very eager in the first place. It’s doubly ironic in those cases when the late notice is coming from professional planners.

 The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, Office of Energy Resources, and Department of Transportation - on behalf of the Executive Climate Change Coordinating Council (EC4) - will be hosting two public listening sessions to hear ideas on how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector and increase the resiliency of transportation-related infrastructure.
 
The sessions will be held, Tuesday, April 3, 2018, from 2 pm to 4 pm at Newport City Hall, 43 Broadway, Newport and Wednesday, April 4, 2018, from 4 pm to 5 pm at the Providence Career and Technical Academy, 41 Fricker Street, Providence.
 
Your input will help local, state, and regional partners identify emerging opportunities and challenges in the transportation sector as we work to enhance transportation alternatives, reduce emissions, increase resiliency, develop and maintain our infrastructure, and protect vulnerable populations in the face of our changing climate.
 
Advance registration is encouraged. If you’re planning on attending, please send your name, the date of the session you will attend, and any organization you are affiliated with to: doa.climatechangeri at doa.ri.gov. (Public comment can be submitted to this email address through April 13, 2018.)
