[Summit] Fw: Forthcoming Neighborhood community and crime-watch meetings

 Hello,
This is sort of a reference or refresher combination of  January meeting notices that I’ve received from various Providence neighborhoods.
Since I haven’t received specific notices about the College Hill or Summit board meetings, I’m instead listing their customary meeting times and places. Wayland Square’s group is making plans, but not holding a formal meeting before next month. The Downtown Neighborhood Association is also not meeting until Tuesday, February 12th, but inviting everyone to their quarterly crime & safety committee meeting on the Monday after next, January 14th.
Below this timetable, I’m attaching the associations’ own newsletters for more information. Sorry for any errors or omissions (it’s too late and I’m too sleepy to double-check this huge list), but please let me know about any that you see.

The I-195 Commission has set forth a resolution summarizing the terms that must be met by Fane before the tower construction can begin (2021?).

In support of the JDA's official position on the Fane Tower, we are in discussions with other neighborhood associations, PPS and others about joining a legal challenge to prohibit the Fane Tower  from building on the Proposed parcel.  |

Happy New Year! 

As we look ahead at the new year, it is important to reflect on all that we accomplished together in 2018. If you were unable to attend last month's Annual Meeting, below are the highlights and our goals for 2019.

We will not have a regularly scheduled monthly meeting in January. Instead, please join us for our Quarterly Neighborhood Crime & Safety Watch meeting on Monday, January 14th, 6 PM at the WaterPlace Towers at 200 Exchange Street.

| 2018 Accomplishments    
   - Continued to host monthly meetings with guest speakers highlighting topics affecting the downtown community. 
   - Launched a website.
   - Partnered with other neighborhood associations and the Providence Preservation Society (PPS) to oppose the Fane Tower.
   - Created a Downtown Neighborhood Safety and Crime Watch.
   - Organized a PVD311 walking tour with Mayor Elorza. 
   - Hosted three additional walking tours to inventory lighting issues throughout downtown. 
   - Maintained an active social media presence on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. 
   - Organized 6 Riverwalk restoration projects with the Providence Parks Department:       
      - Since 2016, a total of 250+ volunteers have sanded and painted railings, light fixtures, benches and trash receptacles along a 1.5 mile stretch of the Providence River from the Hurricane Barrier to Waterplace Park.
      - Saved the City an estimated $250,000+ in labor costs.

   - Organized and hosted the following meetings:      
      - Mayoral candidate Forum
      - Wards 1 and 12 City Council Forum
      - District 5 and 6 State Senate Forum 

   - Wrote 3 letters to the Board of Licenses regarding public safety and quality of life concerns stemming from local businesses.
   - Hosted 4 neighborhood socials in downtown residential buildings.
   - Organized a Providence Neighborhood Summit Meeting to learn about issues affecting all areas throughout Providence. 
   - Sat on several boards, including the:      
      - Downtown Improvement District 
      - Providence Foundation
      - Downtown Security Network
      - CityWalk Advisory Council

Crime Watch meeting for Elmwood & South Providence 

Wednesday, January 23, 6:00 – 7:30

     Attend the meeting and see the new YMCA meeting space, meet your neighbors, and see the stunning views of our neighborhood from a 6th floor vantage point. 

     Special guest is Jazzandra Barros, a new hire at Southside Community Land Trust, who will present the concept, design, and plans for the SCLT’s newly acquired facility at 404 Broad Street, adjacent to Kentucky Fried Chicken. This move promises to bring a positive new presence to Broad Street.

Providence Preservation Society’s Annual Meeting

Thursday, January 24, 5:30

MacMillan Hall, Starr Auditorium, Rm 117, 167 Thayer St

     The meeting will feature keynote speaker Tom Mayes, Vice President and Senior Counsel for the National Trust for Historic Preservation. He is an expert on preservation easements, historic house museums, accessibility, preservation public policy, and the future of historic preservation. Tom Mayes will explore some of the key insights and new information from his recently published book, Why Old Places Matter: How Historic Places Affect Our Identity and Well-Being.Tom will also discuss potential new directions of research about the deep relationship between people and place, as well as implications for historic preservation.

This program is free and open to the public.; however advance registration is required.
A special Annual Meeting dinner will be held at the Waterman Grille with speaker Tom Mayes immediately following the program. Tickets are available at $85 each.
