| BREAKING NEWS ALERT |

| Shortly after Governor Charlie Baker released a basic outline of a phased reopening plan for Massachusetts, the state reported Monday that the death toll from the coronavirus outbreak in Massachusetts had risen by 129 cases to 5,108, surpassing the 5,000 mark.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases climbed by 669 to 78,462. The Department of Public Health also reported 6,339 new tests had been conducted, marking a total of 394,728 in the state.

The state's percentage of positive tests rose slightly to 11 percent, but continued to show a general decline from mid-April highs of 33 and 34 percent. The seven-day average for positive test rates, a number closely watched by public health experts, stayed steady from a day earlier, at 14 percent, but overall continued a downward trend from April highs.
