Good morning,I’m reaching out to touch base while the storm continues. Currently, Providence has received approximately 9 inches of snow, with whiteout conditions and heavy winds continuing at the moment. Towing, ticketing and plow operations are paused due to the dangerous conditions currently. Crews will resume operations as soon as safely possible.
As a reminder, a parking ban is now in effect as is a statewide travel ban. Please avoid any unnecessary travel at this time.
PVD311 will open at 7:00AM Monday with expanded hours to help residents with non-emergency concerns and will be monitoringrequests and emails to PVD311 at providenceri.gov Please report all outages directly to RI Energy if they occur. Non-emergencies can be reported to 401-272-3121. If you have an emergency, please always call 911.

Subject: Providence Winter Weather Update Good afternoon,
I’m writing to share an important update regarding the major winter storm expected to impact Providence beginning tomorrow evening and continuing into Monday.

The National Weather Service predicts this storm will be one of the most substantial winter weather events our state has experienced in a very long time. Providence is currently forecast to receive 12–18 inches of heavy, wet snow, with wind gusts over 40 mph possible. These conditions may cause power outages. Blizzard conditions are possible, with snowfall rates exceeding 2 inches per hour and periods of white-out visibility.

Snow is expected to begin Sunday evening, with the heaviest snow arriving after 10:00 PM Sunday and continuing into Monday afternoon. Travel during this time will be extremely dangerous. Warming center information can be foundhereand staff will continue to check in on supplies and capacity. 

To allow crews to safely and effectively clear roads:

A citywide parking ban will go into effect Sunday at 3:00PM and remain in place until further notice.

   -    
Residents must move vehicles off restricted streets before the ban begins to avoid towing and to allow plows and emergency vehicles to pass.

   -    
Micromobility services will be paused tomorrow afternoon due to expected conditions.

Parking is available for permit holders in designated areas only, residents cannot park in school parking lots.

Trash and recycling pickup will be delayed on Monday. Additional collection guidance will be shared as conditions allow. Please remove any bins from the sidewalks or streets prior to snowfall. 


It is critical that residents avoid unnecessary travel during height of the storm Sunday night through Monday. High winds, heavy snowfall and possible white-out conditions will make roads hazardous and may delay emergency response times. Providence Police will be helping to communicate parking ban information prior to and during the parking ban via their PA systems. 

City departments including DPW, Parks, Public Property teams and contracted vendors are preparing for continuous operations throughout the storm. Clearing roads during a storm of this magnitude requires keeping streets clear of parked vehicles and minimizing traffic so plows and emergency services can operate safely. PVD311 phones will be opening early on Monday at 7:00AM and will be monitored throughout the event, the best way to submit a request is to call, submit online or email directlyPVD311 at providenceri.gov. As always, please call 9-1-1 if there is an emergency. 

We anticipate a storm of this magnitude will require prolonged cleanup efforts. We encourage residents to check on neighbors, prepare for potential power outages and stay indoors during the heaviest snowfall.

boletín en español:Buenas tardes,Les escribo para compartir una actualización importante sobre la gran tormenta invernal que se espera impacte a Providence a partir de mañana por la noche y continúe hasta el lunes.El Servicio Nacional de Meteorología pronostica que esta será una de las tormentas de invierno más significativas que nuestro estado ha experimentado en mucho tiempo. Actualmente, se prevé que Providence reciba entre 12 y 18 pulgadas de nieve pesada y húmeda, con ráfagas de viento superiores a 40 millas por hora. Estas condiciones podrían provocar cortes de energía eléctrica. También son posibles condiciones de ventisca, con tasas de nieve que podrían superar las 2 pulgadas por hora y periodos de visibilidad casi nula.Se espera que la nieve comience el domingo por la noche, con la parte más intensa después de las 10:00 p. m. del domingo y extendiéndose hasta la tarde del lunes.
