website offline for more than a week. We are back with a new
and hopefully more reliable provider.

Providence Preservation Society
has hired a professional consultant, Kathryn Cavanaugh, to complete
the nomination of Summit Neighborhood to the

and a resident of the neighborhood.
Volunteers are needed - see the
History Project page.
Urban Forest Mapping Project Underway
Jun 15 - Volunteers for the
Providence Urban Forest
Analysis Project began collecting field data this week. The
project's goal is to produce a detailed portrait of the City's
urban forest canopy by integrating data from a variety of sources,
including field data collected by Summit-area volunteers.
City Officials Tour Neighborhoods
Jun 14 - A busload of municipal department heads got a close-up look at some of
the City's neighborhoods today. Neighborhood leaders were invited to
conduct a tour of their neighborhoods, pointing out strengths and
weaknesses and raising issues for the officials to bring back with them.
Today's tour allotted 30 minutes each to College Hill (Barry Fain),
Mount Hope (Lenny Long), Summit (John Bazik) and Blackstone (Harriet Wrenn).
The mood was constructive and engaged and the issues ran the gamut.
Neighbors Speak Out at Traffic Meeting
May 30 - More than 50 residents and local business people attended a
public meeting to discuss parking and traffic in Summit. The
engineering team from
BETA Group that is conducting a traffic

Traffic Study Proposals Solicited
Feb 15 - The Summit Neighborhood Association today issued a
Request for
Proposals (RFP) for the Summit Neighborhood Traffic Plan. The
plan will propose solutions to traffic problems throughout the
neighborhood and will also suggest streetscape improvements to
the Hope Street commercial district. For more information, see
Traffic Study.
Annual Meeting Defies Weather
Feb 5 - Despite a snowstorm that blanketed Providence throughout the day
today, the Summit Neighborhood Association's annual meeting was held as
scheduled. The Association's charter requirements and the expense and
effort required to advertise the meeting made rescheduling impractical.
To the surprise of organizers, more than 30 people braved the weather,
including nearly all the scheduled speakers. Those who came out were
rewarded by spirited discussions on several topics that ran right up to
the 9:00 pm cutoff.
History Project Gets Funding
Jan 31 - The Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission today
announced a CLG grant award of $6,000 to the Providence Preservation

photographing the neighborhood. For more information, see
